Peggy's Story
Life
Would never had believed I'd ever leave Seattle and now I have lived out of state since June of '91. I married a Coastie in '90 and we've lived in Eureka, California, for four years, in Corpus Christi, Texas for four years, one year in San Pedro, CA., and we've now been in the Houston, TX, area since July of '00. Miss my friends and family, but not the cold weather.
We love it here so much that we bought a home in 2004 and will be here awhile.
Life has certainly had its ups and downs, but the Good Lord has carried us through it all.
The major downside has been that my beloved husband lost his battle with cancer in May 2007. Life has not been the same since. It has left a huge hole in my heart.
Workplace
I worked for the KingDome for eight years and enjoyed it for the most part. Lots of fun memories from working there.
Kind of exhausting years for me as I also worked full-time at Todd Pacific Shipyards....ugh....those early morning get up's having to be at work by 7:00am! I'm so not a morning person and what's funny now is that I am now only because I have to get the kids up and off to school. When I see students at school that are tardy, they will most likely hear me say, "Good Afternoon!" in my every so lovely Jim Darst voice! He was my boss in Production Planning...Expand for more
for six (6) years and when I would come in past 7:00am, he would say to me, "Good Afternoon." Then, of course, Joe Coffey, the Asst Supt, would tell me, "You should have stopped for breakfast, once your late it doesn't matter how late you are 'cause you're late." I never did, but often thought I should have.
I have so many wonderful and fun memories of working at Todd's. The Production Planning group with Dennis, Roger, Mike, Alan, Jim, Joe, Quincy, Cris, Editha, Fely, Sandi, Randy and everyone else, was just a great bunch of people to work with.
I also worked in the Pricing Department for the last 2-1/2 yrs I worked at Todd's and thoroughly enjoyed working with Gene, Ed, and Tina and the gang.
After I had been there for five (5) years, I remember Chappy telling me I was going be there forever. Well, I made it for almost 14 yrs, but, Fely, you surpased me girl. I can't believe you've been there for over 25 yrs already. Time goes by too quickly.
After moving to Eureka, CA., in '91, I worked in two different law offices while we were stationed there; Bryan Gaynor's office (City Attorney for the City of Arcata) and for Dun & Martinek. I truly enjoyed working for both of these firms and is was just as sad and heartbreaking to leave them as it was my family at Todd Shipyards.
